Mazui's Dev Log #1: From ideas to planning
The idea started with a game jam with the theme "the silly move."
We had a nice conversation about different ideas, and one of the teammates generated a long list of silly moves for establishing ideas, and another teammate came up with the storytelling of "going to an interview", combining them the sketch of the game came up.
I suggested the idea of "performing an action, but the usage of the actions is different than what it is supposed to do", which is quite suitable for linking to "the silly move."
The idea comes from a dream of mine. In the dream, I was trying to get something in a sealed room. However, I could perform the default action of "saying hi" to clip through the wall and reach the item. I found it interesting and kept it down for a few years. Thanks to my teammates, it is amazing to have a chance to implement it into a game.
After a couple of discussions, the idea gradually turned into some plans:
- using saying hi to reach the top of the shelf (which comes from the dream)
- sneak into the office building by using silly dance to lure the security out
- using the bow to avoid obstacles
- using sneeze to blow things out
- playing ninja (blend in with the wall) to escape from angry neighbours
We picked three from there and started to sketch the gameplay.
- using sneeze to blow things out - find hidden objects
- using saying hi to neighbours - as well as hitting (fixing) the evaluator, cleaning white broads
- using pass gas (aka fart) to do dashing
